A not for profit organisation based in the United States of America, the ‘Courtesy Foundation’, has concluded arrangement to hold a Yuletide Concert tagged ‘The Frankincense, the first of its kind Classical music Concert’ in Lagos, Nigeria.

Founder of the foundation, the US based Nigerian classical music icon, Abiodun Koya, at a recent media parley, ahead of her coming performance, said the benefit concert will give her the opportunity to give back to the community using the proceeds to reach out to girls and orphans in the rural areas in Nigeria.

“I want to use to proceeds from this concert to send some under privileged, but brilliant girls to school so that they can have access to education and a good life in the future. I also intend to have a clinic where farmers and market women can have access to basic health care.”

The classical music star that sees herself as a mentor to other young Nigerians, disclosed that one of her desires is to establish a music academy in Nigeria, where those who do not have the opportunity to travel abroad may also harness and horn their musical talents.

She said it has been her desires to open a school of music that will have a class for Ballerina where up and coming singers, whether adult or teenager, would be groomed, while also calling on government at all levels and endowed individuals to support the development of music in Nigeria.

The event which will feature the giving of awards to deserving Nigerians icons such as Soni Irabor, ex-international footballer, Segun Odegbami among others, will also showcase the Frankincense Orchestra, the Frankincense Choir and the children choir from a private school in Lekki area of Lagos.

Speaking about what guests should expect, Convener of the Concert, Abiodun Koya said her orchestra teams have packaged this all-inclusive premium lifestyle concert to showcase musical art performances and an interpretation of the beautiful Nigerian culture with a classical expression this yuletide season.

“Apart from raising money for the benefit of the Nigeria girls and the rural people, I am also looking forward to using music to create ambiance that opens expressions of love, warmth and a divine connection in the most remarkable way possible”, she remarked.

The father of the day will be the former President of Nigeria, Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo (rtd) and the royal fathers will include the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi. Other expected guests include the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Burutai, Minister of Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu among others.

The Ogun State born Abiodun Koya is one of the very few professionally trained Opera singers of an African origin, popularly called the ‘Presidents and Kings Singer’ who has performed at various times at the white house for the United States presidential inauguration, the Democratic National convention and in Nigeria, performed during the independent day celebration this year in Abuja.

The Frankincense Concert will pride itself as the ultimate of all concerts in the city of Lagos bringing together the crème de la crème of the Society, Royalties, Captains of Industries Commerce, and Music Icons.
